Independent English-language journalism on Iran
Tehran Dispatch is an independent English-language publication covering Iran's politics, economy, society, nuclear program, and foreign relations. We are not affiliated with any government, political party, or commercial interest. Our funding comes exclusively from reader subscriptions and institutional grants from organisations committed to press freedom.
We were founded by a team of journalists, analysts, and editors who believed that Iran — one of the world's most consequential nations — was consistently misunderstood by English-language audiences. Too often, coverage reduces a country of 90 million people to a single geopolitical variable. Tehran Dispatch exists to tell a fuller story.
We aim to produce journalism that is accurate, contextual, and useful. We cover the full breadth of Iranian life: the parliamentary debates and the street-level protests, the oil fields and the bazaars, the nuclear negotiations and the underground music venues. We take our readers seriously and assume they can handle complexity.
Our editorial team is based across Tehran, London, and Washington D.C. Our reporters include Iranian nationals, dual nationals, and international correspondents with deep regional experience. All staff operate under editorial independence from our management and ownership structure, which is governed by an independent editorial board.
Tehran Dispatch accepts no advertising from governments or state-affiliated entities. We do not accept funding that comes with editorial conditions. Our reader revenue model ensures we are accountable to our audience, not to advertisers or political patrons. A full breakdown of our funding sources is published annually in our transparency report.
